Our Native Title and Indigenous Lands Services (NTILS) team within the Lands division have an opportunity for a talented State Negotiator to join them on a permanent basis. A key part of this role is project managing case loads of native title claims and compensation applications filed in the Federal Court of Australia, and
representing the State and providing instructions to Crown Law in Federal Courtdirected mediations to seek, where possible, negotiated outcomes for native title
claims and other native title matters under the (Act).
Our Land division are the stewards for 60% of the land in Queensland and we deliver a variety of land and property services across Queensland, including land and asset
valuations; state land administration and on ground management surveying services to mention a few.
In this role you will work with the executive team and your manager on issues that affect the resolution of native title claims while identifying emerging native title issues and working on innovative solutions. Your potential for growth and natural leadership will see you develop relationships quickly with various stakeholders, while supervising and directing other team members to assist in the contribution to outcomes for native title claims.
Your high level of adaptable communication will see you undertake complex negotiations to facilitate outcomes of native title claims, and your ability to lead discussions with compensation claims or complex Indigenous Land Use Agreements will be driven by your approachable work style and ability to build enduring relationships built on trust and respect.
You will have diversity of work and projects, and your approachable work style will see you successfully navigate relationships with various stakeholders across bodies such as Crown Law, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, native title representative bodies, the National Native Title Tribunal and State and Commonwealth Departments.
Your ability to interpret relevant legislation and formulate applicable information and data to assist with negotiations, advice and considerations for native title claim matters will see you successful in contributing to outcomes for both the State and native title claimants.
This position requires:
• Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire the knowledge of relevant legislation (for example Native Title Act 1993, Land Act 1994), information (including legal precedents) and systems (for example Smart Map and Queensland Globe) would be highly regarded.
