Primary objective
The Manager WHS and Wellbeing is a crucial leadership and operational position within the Department of Health and is responsible for
staff management, WHS auditing, driving legislative compliance, hazard and risk management, supporting incident investigation processes
and reporting, and WHS management system alignment with Legislative requirements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the strategic design and implementation of NT Health's evidence-based WHS Strategy and Management Systems to enhance
safety performance across the organisation.
2. Analyse trends and provide actionable recommendations to senior management to reduce risk, improve safety and wellbeing
outcomes, and lead the development and tracking of relevant key performance indicators to monitor performance against
organisational objectives and legislative compliance.
- Manage the review and continuous improvement of WHS resources, including reports, communication channels (e.g., WHS/HSR), and
training programs to ensure consistency and effectiveness across NT Health.
- Deliver project components and work plan activities established by the NT Health WHS Steering Committee and other relevant groups.
- Evaluate data and prepare high-quality WHS and Wellbeing reports, correspondence, and recommendations to support informed
decision-making.
6. Lead procurement processes in line with NT Government policies and legislative requirements, ensuring compliance and value for
money.
7. Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive delivery of WHS training and development initiatives to build capability and awareness
among NT Health personnel.
8. Actively contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and safety-focused organisational culture.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practices, policies, and
procedures, as well as experience in managing obligations and compliance.
2. Advanced knowledge and understanding of hazard and risk assessments and the associations between risk identification,
control measures, and compliance monitoring.
3. Advanced knowledge and understanding of conceptual, analytical, technical, and innovative problem-solving skills and
experience in developing high-level WHS and Wellbeing correspondence and reports.
4. Advanced knowledge and understanding of project/program management skills with experience in systems improvement,
research, training, policy development, evaluation, and understanding of change management principles.
5. High-level oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and consultation with senior managers, employees,
committees, and external stakeholders.
6. Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects while maintaining required outcomes and deadlines.
7. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and lead in an information-sharing team environment.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in work health and safety or another relevant field.
2. Extensive experience in leading advanced WHS investigations.
