The UNSW Parent Child Research Clinic directed by Professor Eva Kimonis specialises in delivering evidence-based assessment and treatment for disruptive, aggressive, and hyperactive-impulsive child behaviour.

We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Psychology Registrar or clinically trained Psychologist to join our caring, supportive, and passionate team. The contractor position is part-time (number of days negotiable) for a fixed term (one year with potential to renew). The clinician will be primarily situated in our state-of-the-art clinic facilities at the Parent-Child Research Clinic located on the Kensington campus of the University of New South Wales. The job offers flexibility and independence, administrative support, access to professional development resources and clinical supervision with board-approved supervisors, all within a supportive University-based work environment.

The role of Psychologist reports to Professor Eva Kimonis, and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessment and treatment sessions with individual families of children presenting with symptoms of oppositional-defiant, conduct, and/or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, using standard, enhanced, Internet-delivered, and other adaptations of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
  • Conduct group-based parenting intervention sessions with parents/caregivers of young children.
  • Assist with research and administrative activities as required.
  • Accurately and completely record session documentation to facilitate quality data collection for research purposes.
  • Participate in regular group clinical supervision sessions.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited postgraduate program.
  • Current registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner's Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board (or registration application submitted for provisional psychologists).
  • Proven clinical skills in delivering evidence-based child mental health interventions.
  • Interest and willingness to train in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and its adaptations for children with limited prosocial emotions (i.e., age inappropriate levels of guilt/empathy, insensitivity to punishment), and/or delivered over the Internet.
  • Interest and willingness to train in Helping Our Toddlers, Developing Our Children's Skills (HOTDOCS) group-based universal parenting intervention.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated previous experience working with children and/or families.
  • Professional indemnity insurance.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Desirable

  • Training and experience delivering Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); Clinicians will receive intensive training and clinical support and/or supervision in delivering PCIT treatment (where appropriate).
  • AHPRA endorsement as a clinical psychologist (opportunity for clinical supervision for registrar program in Clinical psychology).
