Position Overview

The Assistant Breeder Farm Manager supports the Farm Manager in all aspects of daily farm operations. This is a hands-on role suited for someone with experience in poultry or livestock farming who thrives in a practical environment. You will help ensure optimal flock performance, support team leadership, maintain site infrastructure, and uphold compliance with animal welfare and WH&S standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Farm Manager in overseeing day-to-day breeder farm operations
  • Supervise and assist farm staff with task planning, prioritisation, and delegation
  • Operate farm machinery and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Monitor feed and water systems, supporting timely and accurate bird collection
  • Carry out daily shed servicing and grounds maintenance
  • Assist with weekly bird weigh-ins and accurate data recording
  • Help coordinate contract crews for vaccination and grading
  • Monitor flock health and welfare, and report performance issues promptly
  • Respond to farm alarms, including after-hours as needed
  • Ensure adherence to WH&S, environmental, and biosecurity policies
  • Participate in ongoing improvements for productivity, efficiency, and animal care

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in poultry or livestock farming (breeder experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of animal husbandry, welfare standards, and farm hygiene
  • Experience leading or supervising a small team is desirable
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Good knowledge of WH&S and compliance requirements
  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and attend after-hours callouts as required

  • Physical tasks including lifting, machinery use, and work in varying weather conditions
  • Some weekend and after-hours work required, including emergency response
