The Advisor, Academic Skills (Equity & Access) will play a key role in fostering an inclusive learning environment by implementing proactive strategies that empower students with diverse needs to build on their existing capabilities, enhance their academic skills, and achieve their full potential with confidence and independence.
Key responsibilities will include:
Academic Support and Intervention
- Act as a key contact for students on academic progression improvement plans, developing tailored support interventions and resources to increase student engagement and remove barriers to learning.
- You will deliver high-impact learning support through one-on-one consultations, group workshops, and online materials.
Resource Development and Project Support
- Create inclusive, universally designed learning resources for students and contribute to service innovation projects aimed at improving access and retention for students with disabilities, neurodivergence, medical conditions or exceptional circumstances.
Collaboration and Expertise
- Provide expertise and advice to other team members and university staff on diverse learning needs, best practice strategies, and assistive technology solutions. You will also work collaboratively with Faculties, the Graduate School, and other units to integrate complementary learning services and resources.
Administrative and Quality Assurance
- Perform administrative duties such as case management and record keeping. You will also conduct program evaluations and contribute to reporting for quality assurance and auditing purposes.
- A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., education, educational psychology, social work) with at least four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience in providing academic learning support or teaching to students with diverse learning needs, neurodivergence, or disability.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Sound understanding of the principles of inclusive education and the impacts of disability on learning. You should also have strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and manage your own workload.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
