We are seeking a high-performing and innovative Principal Advisor to join the Strategy and Governance team, one of three teams within the Strategy and Advisory Services (SAS) business unit. This unit is responsible for providing work health and safety (WHS) regulatory assurance, strategy and governance, and advisory field services, under the Policy and Workplace Services directorate within OIR.
The Strategy and Governance team works collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to provide governance oversight to the successful delivery of statewide WHS strategies and prevention programs to achieve positive WHS and injury management outcomes.
As a senior member of the Strategy and Governance team, you will be part of an agile and responsive team that leads the planning, design and delivery of state-wide WHS strategies and prevention programs impacting Queensland industry, business and the community. The role will require you to lead and coordinate the implementation and evaluation of key projects delivered across multiple OIR business units responsible for securing WHS regulation, building internal workforce capability and strategic communications.
The role will require you to use your strategic thinking and analytical skills to develop frameworks and tools that will influence the strategic direction and outcomes of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ). You will also provide advice to support OIR's executive to make informed business decisions.
You will work with the Manager, Strategy and Governance to drive and coordinate business improvements across the SAS unit as part of a cross-functional team, through the implementation and administration of sound governance practices and key stakeholder consultation.
This position contributes to the recommendations from the Best Practice Review of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. Key responsibilities include:
The Principal Advisor Will
- Support the Manager to plan, design, deliver and implement evidence-informed, innovative statewide WHS strategies and prevention programs that are responsive, accurate, delivered on time and within budget.
- Oversee the governance of strategic frameworks that support OIR objectives by collaborating and consulting with OIR's technical, policy and inspectorate work areas.
- Plan and deliver targeted initiatives including communication, engagement, monitoring and evaluation frameworks to support statewide WHS strategies and prevention programs that ensure stakeholders are well informed and understand key messaging.
- Plan and deliver activities to support the implementation of SAS's workforce capability development initiatives.
- Contribute to the review and development of legislation, standards and guidance to improve the systematic management of WHS within priority industries, hazard areas and vulnerable worker groups.
- Engage with key internal stakeholders, OIR partners, industry and worker representatives, academics, state and federal regulators, etc., to create and maintain collaborative and productive working partnerships.
- Prepare high-level managerial and technical reports, briefs, presentations, correspondence and submissions as required.
- Provide high-level advice to the SAS leadership team and other key stakeholders on the WHS performance of target industries, including emerging issues and control measures.
- Model professional and ethical behaviour and actively participate in the promotion of a discrimination free workplace culture that values equity and diversity. Act in accordance with Queensland's Public Service Code of Conduct and relevant legislation.
- Take reasonable care for the WHS of yourself and others, and comply and cooperate with all OIR WHS and wellbeing policies and procedures.
