About the role:

The Housing Support Officer provides practical, on-the-ground support to LALCs in managing their housing programs, assisting with tenancy management, tenant engagement, and housing-related administrative processes to strengthen local housing management capacity, governance and compliance.

Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for the Housing Support Officer are summarised as follows but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct, hands-on support to LALCs in managing tenancy and housing program operations.

  • Assist LALCs in implementing effective tenant engagement and housing management processes.

  • Support LALCs through coaching and capacity building to improve housing governance, management and compliance.

  • Facilitate effective communication between LALCs and external housing service providers or contractors to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Monitor and report on housing management challenges and successes within assigned LALCs to the Team Leader to inform continuous improvement.

Essential Criteria:

  • Aboriginality – Identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Practical experience in housing or property management, particularly tenancy and housing program administration.

  • Knowledge and understanding of housing compliance requirements, policies, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Experience in effectively engaging with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders, including the ability to provide direct support and build capacity for Aboriginal community organisations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the capability to build trust and effective working relationships with LALCs and community stakeholders.

  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable:

  • Qualification or certification in Housing, Property Management, Community Services, or related disciplines.

  • Understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) and experience working within Aboriginal community settings.

  • Experience in community development, tenant engagement, or social housing support programs.
