About the role:

The Team Leader, Housing Support will lead the newly established Housing Support Team, providing strategic oversight, developing and managing the implementation of NSWALC's LALC Housing Support Strategy, and driving improvements in tenancy and asset management, compliance, and governance, including capability building for LALCs across the network.

Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for the Team Leader, Housing Support are summarised as follows but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the Housing Support Team to provide tailored, hands-on support to LALCs in tenancy and asset management, compliance, and governance.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of NSWALC's Housing Support Strategy to enhance housing outcomes, reduce risks, and improve operational sustainability across the LALC network.
  • Engage strategically with key stakeholders including Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO), Aboriginal Community Housing Industry Association (ACHIA), Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs), and local governments to align policy and promote statewide housing improvements.
  • Oversee team performance, ensuring regular reporting, monitoring, and continuous improvement of housing services delivery.
  • Coordinate cross-team collaboration with Performance Quality & Improvement Team (PQIT) and NSWALC Zones, ensuring alignment with broader organisational strategies and programs.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on housing management practices, policy development, risk management, and compliance under the ALRA and other regulatory schemes.WALC and the individual LALC's in identifying and managing social and culture and heritage issues.

Essential Criteria:

  • Aboriginality – Identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in leading, managing, and developing a diverse team to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience in housing, compliance, governance, or related sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of tenancy management systems, asset management processes, and housing compliance frameworks.
  • Proven experience in engaging and working effectively with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to engage, influence, and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, risk management, and policy development skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Housing, Business Management, Public Administration, or related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) and housing-related regulatory frameworks.
