The role oversees the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of the HUBconnect Licensee product and related technologies. This includes delivering high-quality software solutions aligned with business needs, managing a technical backlog for long-term sustainability, and fostering a high-performing team culture. The role plays a key part in project planning, stakeholder engagement, technical leadership, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team including software engineers, business analysts, test analysts, and a delivery manager, ensuring team cohesion and performance.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback, track progress on individual objectives, and support career growth and professional development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture that encourages accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Align with other Development Managers to ensure consistent practices, shared learning, and coordinated improvement initiatives across teams.
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of software development projects, ensuring alignment with project timelines, scope, and budget.
  • Collaborate with the delivery manager to prioritise tasks, manage workloads, and establish clear delivery processes and expectations.

  • Maintain and manage a ranked technical backlog focused on addressing system security, resilience, maintainability, and performance.
  • Ensure risks associated with technical debt or infrastructure are communicated to stakeholders and negotiate appropriate capacity allocation.
  • Promote and enforce adherence to best practices in coding, documentation, testing, deployment, and overall software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Ensure consistency and shared approaches to development with other HUBconnect technology teams.
  • Engage regularly with business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, translating them into functional and technical deliverables.
  • Enable the delivery manager to communicate effectively with stakeholders about progress, issues, risks, and resolutions.
  • Ensure alignment between business goals and technical solutions, maintaining a balance between immediate needs and long-term product health.
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Management & Business Reporting team to track work efforts and time spent using tools like Azure DevOps (ADO), 7pace, and Tiger.
  • Ensure development items and time tracking comply with agreed guidelines and governance structures.
  • Maintain a clear, up-to-date roadmap of technical initiatives and ensure it is aligned with the overall Product & Technology strategy.
  • Provide high-quality monthly reports to the line manager summarising delivery progress, team achievements and challenges, risks, and key metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise processes and implement best practices to enhance development efficiency and output quality.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, skill development, and knowledge sharing within the team to support succession planning and reduce key-person risk.
  • Implement robust quality assurance measures, including automated testing where feasible, to ensure reliable and high-performing software delivery.
  • Work with test analysts to design and maintain effective test plans, adopting "shift left" testing strategies to identify issues earlier in the development cycle.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement across all aspects of software development and team operations.
