The Organisation
Proudly serving Australians since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides emergency aeromedical and allied health services for people in rural and remote Australia. We strive towards improving the health and wellbeing of our rural communities and believe in creating opportunities, so all Victorians have the choice to access essential primary health care services.
About the Role
This role is part of the Flying Doctor Wellbeing program, supporting individuals, families, and groups in regional and remote communities across Gippsland. It offers a unique opportunity for psychology graduates with prior career experience to transition into the mental health field.
You'll provide a mix of face-to-face and telehealth care, working closely with internal teams and local services to deliver accessible, coordinated mental health support. The role focuses on early intervention, care planning, and community engagement, with an emphasis on understanding the challenges faced by rural populations.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Deliver evidence-based mental health interventions and manage a full client caseload, including intake, assessment, and care coordination.
- Monitor and manage clinical risk in consultation with supervisors and participate in regular clinical supervision.
- Travel regularly to isolated communities to provide in-person support and refer clients within the stepped care framework.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support client outcomes and promote the service through community engagement.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, uphold confidentiality, and contribute to quality improvement and governance activities.
To be successful, you will need:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology or equivalent.
- Minimum five years of full-time work experience (not necessarily in mental health)
- Some exposure to health settings is desirable
- An understanding of clinical skills in assessment, intervention, and care planning, with knowledge of challenges faced by rural and remote communities.
- Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a current Working with Children's Check, National Police Check, and the right to work in Australia.
