About the Team

The HOPE program is a Victorian Government initiative which was implemented to provide enhanced support and assertive outreach to individuals who have recently been discharged from an emergency department or medical ward following an attempted suicide, or serious planning or intent.

The HOPE program provide intensive, person-centred support with is tailored to the unique needs of the individual for up to 12 weeks. These individuals are supported to address factors that contribute to stress in their lives, which can include assistance with employment, mental health support, and referral to range of other community supports. The HOPE program also works with the families, carers, or friends of the individuals who have attempted suicide, to provide support and link them in with appropriate services.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for motivated Senior Mental Health Clinician to undertake an ongoing position within the HOPE team working from the Horsham/Ararat region.

The successful applicant would have the ability and desire to provide patient-centred, recovery minded, psychosocial focused support to the individuals and their families, carers, and friends, post an attempted suicide or serious planning or intent. Other key expectations include.

  • Undertake routine case reviews and translate clinical assessment, diagnostics, risk formulation, treatment recommendations for HOPE consumers and non-clinical staff.
  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment plans to HOPE consumers.
  • Provide high level of clinical risk assessment and management services to support agencies, families and other support services in the management of individuals that present with risk factors for suicide.
  • Develop expert knowledge in the field of suicide prevention, including psychiatric, psychosocial broader community-wide evidence-based approaches to reducing suicide rates within the Grampians region.

Skills & Experience

Relevant professional qualification in a health-related discipline (psychology, nursing, social work, or occupational therapy); current registration where applicable.

  • Experience required is relevant to the respective enterprise agreements.
  • Appointment to RPN4 positions must have completed either a post graduate diploma in Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing or a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or a specialist post basic course of training which led to registration as a division 3 nurse. A substantial period of work experience (usually at least 5 years) to achieve expert knowledge.
  • Occupational Therapist Grade 3 and Social Worker Grade 3 (usually at least 7 years of experience), possessing specific knowledge in the branch of the profession.
  • Psychologist Grade 3 is a person who is registered as a Psychologist with the PBA with a minimum of five years' professional experience as a Psychologist Grade 2 (or equivalent), complies with the code of ethics and legal requirements of the psychology profession.
