The Business Banking Chief Controls Office (CCO) focuses on driving simpler and better risk and regulatory outcomes through the provision of transparency, consistency and insight to our Business Banking divisions.

The Controls Excellence team is a function designed to leverage better technology to mitigate risk in our business. The team drive a coordinated program of work to uplift automated system controls, design and implement controls using analytics and AI, and undertake controls assessment and monitoring on common controls across the business, while continually identifying and acting on opportunities to improve the risk environment.

In this fast-paced and transformative role, you will support the Product Owner and the Controls Excellence team in the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Automated & Analytical controls within the 3LoA framework for Business Banking.

Your team adds value through activities that:

  • leverage data analytics and AI to help build, enhance, and embed controls that reduce residual risk, ensure compliance, and support business objectives. Your work will directly contribute to strengthening the organisation's risk and control environment
  • collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders across the business—including product and distribution, analytics and data science, risk and compliance, technology, and business leaders—to ensure controls are effective, scalable, and aligned with the 3LoA model.

We're interested in hearing from people who will aspire to

  • Assist the Product Owner with the identification, prioritisation, and onboarding of new automated assurance tests into the Group's 3LoA engine, ensuring alignment with 3LoA principles and business needs.
  • Gather and refine requirements from stakeholders, translating control objectives and data requirements into fit-for-purpose automated assurance test designs.
  • Support the design, development, and documentation of new automated assurance tests using analytics and AI, working closely with business, data, L2 and L3 stakeholders and seek approvals
  • Support the building and optimisation of 3LoA processes to validate, investigate, and remediate exceptions, ensuring they are simple, scalable, and sustainable.
  • Coordinate the delivery of specific initiatives within the broader 3LoA programme, supporting the management of timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to simplify and automate existing manual controls, supporting the shift towards continuous, data-driven assurance.
  • Facilitate walkthroughs and workshops with stakeholders to ensure shared understanding and buy-in for automated assurance solutions.
  • Monitor control performance, gather feedback, and drive continuous improvement in line with 3LoA objectives.

Other qualities you may possess include

  • Working knowledge of risk and controls
  • Experience supporting Product Owners or working in Agile/Scrum environments is highly regarded
  • Ability in gathering, process mapping, or business analysis tools.
  • Experience working with a large number of stakeholders, and are able to translate complex problems and requirements into simple yet effective business language
  • Ability to understand a wide-variety of business functions, products and processes quickly
  • Demonstrable problem solving techniques to determine improvement opportunities
  • Ability to schedule and meet challenging deadlines in fast-paced environment
  • Highly adaptable, intellectually curious and passion for making things simpler and better
  • Knowledge of Business Banking products and processes preferred
