Primary objective

Plan, implement, and facilitate health promotion activities and programs within a multidisciplinary team to Aboriginal people in

remote communities to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in remote communities.

Context statement

This position works collaboratively with stakeholders in Central Australian Remote Aboriginal communities to provide health

promotion activities that aim to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people living in remote communities. Must have experience

driving a manual vehicle and eligibility to obtain an NT driver's licence.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist remote community members and groups to identify their own health and wellbeing issues and effectively plan activities

to address the identified issues.

2. Work collaboratively with health professionals and other key stakeholders to meet program goals.

3. Work effectively with others to facilitate education and training on health-related topics.

4. Plan, implement, facilitate and evaluate best practice health promotion activities within outreach services.

5. Support other members of the Primary and Public Health Care Outreach Team with culturally safe health promotion activities.

6. Facilitate health promotion activities, identify resources and build capacity for decision making and action.

7. Undertake cultural brokerage activities to support health promotion in remote settings.

8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in effectively delivering health promotion activities with people from diverse backgrounds.

2. Demonstrated experience in facilitating group discussion, consultation and negotiation with diverse groups of people.

3. Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team, use initiative and organise work schedules independently.

4. Proven ability to adapt to changing work environments, including flexibility of working hours and ability to work in remote

communities.

5. Have an understanding of health promotion principles and how they can be applied in a remote health context.

6. Possession of a current manual Northern Territory driver's licence, and the ability to travel to remote communities.

7. Willing and able to travel to remote communities on a regular basis by road and to stay for up to a week as required.

Desirable

1. Have a qualification or be engaged in an appropriate course of study in health promotion, adult education or other relevant

areas.

2. Possess good computer skills.
