Primary objective

Provide culturally safe and responsive cardiac health care services through the provision of treatment of illness, promoting holistic health

and wellbeing of cardiac practice to individuals, families and communities.

Context statement

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner classification level AHP3 [Specialist] is an advanced practitioner. Is able to work autonomously, can

anticipate and set long term goals for individuals and families. Note holistic health care services encompass the physical, mental, social

and emotional, environmental and spiritual health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. This

position is located in Alice Springs Hospital, Cardiology Outpatients.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide culturally and clinically safe cardiac health care services, including promoting prevention, early detection and early

intervention to achieve better health outcomes.

2. In partnership with other healthcare professionals, develop culturally safe healthcare plans for individuals and support them to self-

manage their health care plan.

3. In collaboration with key stakeholders, engage with community members to plan, organise and evaluate primary health care programs

which address identified needs to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery.

4. Participate in the organisations Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process including research for the provision of safe, effective

and efficient health care.

5. Provide professional supervision, mentoring and support to new graduates and trainees to develop their skills, knowledge and

professional capabilities.

  1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Ahpra as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner.

2. Minimum AQF level 5 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement and/or learning agreement.

3. Proven experience providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practice to individuals and families; including

care coordination and health education and promotion.

4. Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision, support and wellbeing to Aboriginal health practitioners including providing

feedback and contributing to practice improvements.

5. Demonstrated local Aboriginal knowledge with the ability to engage and effectively communicate with individuals, families and

communities to plan, organise and evaluate primary health care programs.
