About the role
As a Firmware & Embedded Software Engineer, where you'll lead the development of embedded systems across custom hardware platforms. From firmware design to hardware integration and testing, you'll play a key role in delivering robust, scalable solutions that power our technology. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with global collaboration at its core.

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware and hardware across custom PCB platforms
  • Code in C/C++ and Go within embedded Linux environments, with a strong grasp of microelectronics and device-to-cloud communication (APIs, WebSockets)
  • Build and refine automated testing harnesses; conduct hardware-in-the-loop validation and support OTA update strategies
  • Debug across hardware, firmware, and network layers with precision and agility
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including European partners—to ensure seamless hardware/software integration
  • Document design decisions, testing protocols, and deployment procedures with clarity and consistency
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing and succession planning

What IOR are Looking For:
IOR is seeking a seasoned Firmware & Software Hardware Engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and driving innovation across embedded systems. You'll bring deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for building scalable, high-performance solutions. If you're outcome-focused, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and excited to work across borders with diverse teams, we'd love to hear from you.

To succeed in this role, you'll also need:

  • Diploma or Degree in Electronics Engineering (or related field), with 10+ years' experience in embedded firmware and hardware development
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++, Go, embedded Linux, Docker, and IoT systems
  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, validation, and full product lifecycle support
  • Ability to navigate complex priorities, collaborate across onshore/offshore teams, and drive effective knowledge transfer
  • Advantageous: Ability to interpret and translate Slovakian technical documentation into clear, accurate English
