About the business

Southern Riverlands Poultry farms are located in the Boort area, growing for a large local poultry company. Southern Riverlands Poultry started its operations in 2019, that has a state-of-the-art SKOV equipment and Santrev housing. The site comprises of 3 farms with 8 sheds per farm. A vacancy currently exists for a Farm Manager to look after 1 farm of 360,000 birds. This role will report to the Facility Manager. The successful applicant must be prepared to work on weekends and nights.

About the role

We are looking for an individual who can adapt to the demands of the farming environment which includes responsibility of livestock, feed management, bird collection, and placement, daily shed servicing, grounds maintenance, record keeping and other related industry bio-security requirements.

This is a hands on position working directly with birds and maintaining the property and would ideally suit an individual who enjoys working in a rural environment.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Monitor growth rates against targets. Administer vaccines, supplements and other appropriate animal husbandry.
  • Oversee the prescribing and implementation of the animal husbandry program including training and supervision of staff. This includes flock health programs young stock management and preparation of culling lists, weight records.
  • Determine feed availability based on growth rates. Oversee its allocation including setting up rotation plan and use of temporary fencing.
  • Set up, operate and monitor feed delivery equipment per shed farm and elsewhere on farm. Manage feed ordering / inventory.
  • Includes understanding of dietary requirements based on production, cost and availability and use of additives
  • Identify need for renovation of litter, organise overturning/removal, summer and winter schedule including purchase of litter.
  • Follow weed management policy on farm. Monitor and determine most appropriate treatment.
  • Oversee maintenance program for farm vehicles, equipment and implements
  • Implement the farm maintenance schedule including replacement of rubber ware, routine machine testing and maintenance of equipment.
  • Achieving the budget by controlling operating costs, reducing waste and managing overheads in the farm operation.
  • Ensure the farm business is compliant with workplace legislation including Biosecurity, W, H&S requirements.
  • Oversee the organization and timesheet preparation for all staff including allocation of tasks.

Any other duties as directed and as required by the Site Manager from time to time.

What we're looking for

  • Significant experience (3+ years) in a farm management role, preferably within the poultry industry
  • Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, including poultry health, nutrition, and welfare practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in agriculture, animal science, or a related field would be highly regarded
