Melbourne, Victoria, Australia affix Full time $200,000 - $300,000 per year

Chief Product Officer

  • Full-time | Melbourne-based
  • Portfoilio of 3 tech companies
  • Reports to the group CEO

The story

Jonas Software. Who are they and what do they do? Well, they acquire, manage and scale industry-specific software companies globally. They have acquired the best part of 200 technology businesses worldwide.

In Australia, Jonas flies below the radar but with significant year-on-year growth, continues to deliver VERY healthy results in growth and M&A.

Not only does Jonas provide diversity in the work that people do, but multiple pathways for career progression that organically opens up through their success and M&A activity.

The role

This is a Chief Product Officer gig to lead product strategy and delivery across a portfolio of three businesses in the hospitality technology sector. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on pace, ambiguity, variety and scope.

Lots of words that boil down to overseeing product roadmaps, engineering teams, and technical architecture across three distinct businesses. You'll need to be comfortable leading juniors, mids, and a leader within a new SLT group.

What the role is in year one will be very different from year two and beyond. The words transformation and change come to mind as a way to pave the way for further growth.

What You'll Do…

Product Leadership

  • Define and drive product roadmaps aligned with business objectives
  • Analyze customer needs and translate them into market-leading features
  • Own delivery timelines and ensure consistent execution across businesses
  • Make critical architectural and API strategy decisions.

Team Management

  • Lead and develop 7-8 engineers onshore and more offshore
  • Assess current team capabilities and optimize structure
  • Build a high-performing culture focused on delivery and quality, as well as transparency
  • Find quick, meaningful efficiency gains within Product and Engineering.

Technical Direction

  • Guide platform architecture and replatforming decisions
  • Oversee API development and third-party integration strategy
  • Challenge technical approaches and drive best practices
  • Address legacy system issues and technical debt strategically.

What we are after…

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record in roles driving significant change
  • PE/VC portfolio company or experience in early-stage or scaling environments
  • Direct management of engineering teams, not just product managers
  • Ability to make decisions on architectural decisions without hands-on coding
  • Experience in managing distributed/offshore development teams.

Leadership Style

  • Comfortable switching between strategic planning and tactical execution
  • Bias toward action and rapid problem-solving
  • Strong communicator who can influence across all organizational levels
  • Pragmatic approach to balancing innovation with delivery.

Technical Capabilities

  • Deep understanding of API development and integration patterns
  • Experience with platform assessment and migration strategies
  • Ability to evaluate and improve development processes
  • Track record of solving complex technical and delivery challenges.

We aren't expecting you to cut code or bring what a CTO would to the table, but lead high-performing engineering teams as a Product leader. You're technical enough to challenge and make architectural decisions but strategic enough to set direction. You're equally comfortable presenting roadmaps to executives and debugging delivery bottlenecks with your team. You thrive on building and fixing, not optimizing a well-oiled machine.

Think of this gig as your "these aren't the droids you're looking for" moment—except we actually
are
the droids you're looking for, if you're into fixing legacy systems and shipping products at ludicrous speed. I like Star Wars. I can't help it.

If this sounds like it might float your boat, apply and say hi
