Position Overview:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth within the construction industry. This role requires a commercially minded professional with a deep understanding of the construction sector, strong relationship-building skills, and a proven track record in business development or sales leadership.
The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the company's market presence, managing key client accounts, and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the construction, civil, and infrastructure sectors.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including builders, developers, architects, contractors, and government clients.
Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve business growth and profitability targets.
Prepare and present proposals, tenders, and project bids in collaboration with technical and estimating teams.
Conduct regular market analysis to identify emerging trends, competitor activity, and potential growth areas.
Collaborate with internal departments (operations, marketing, and finance) to ensure seamless delivery of client solutions.
Negotiate contracts and commercial agreements to ensure favourable outcomes for both the company and clients.
Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions.
Provide regular reports and forecasts to senior management on sales performance, pipeline activity, and market intelligence.
Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience in business development, account management, or senior sales within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles, procurement processes, and stakeholder management.
Proven ability to generate new business and deliver revenue growth.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
Experience preparing tenders and managing large or complex contracts.
Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or Diploma in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Established network of contacts within the construction and development industries.
Experience working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors (highly regarded).
