The office of Ash Ambihaipahar MP is seeking applications for a part-time ongoing Multicultural Engagement Officer (EOA) in the Member's Electorate Office in Kogarah, NSW.

Position Overview

The Multicultural Engagement Officer plays a vital role in strengthening the Member's connection with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with multicultural organisations, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure inclusive representation and engagement.

The key duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
  • Building relationships with multicultural organisations and leaders
  • Supporting the Member's outreach in CALD spaces
  • Organising translation, interpreters, and inclusive events
  • Assisting with casework and community event representation where appropriate
  • Liaising with other CALD Organisers in the Australian Labor Party (ALP)
  • Staffs the Member where necessary, which may include note taking, photography and content creation
  • Other duties as required.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with multicultural organisations, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of CALD specific digital spaces like WeChat and Red Book
  • Skilled in organising interpreters, translation services, and culturally inclusive events to ensure accessibility and representation.
  • Ability to liaise with other CALD organisers and networks within the Australian Labor Party to coordinate community engagement efforts.
  • Connection to CALD communities in the electorate is valued highly.
  • Ability to speak and translate material in Mandarin.
  • Commitment to the values of the ALP.

Employment conditions:

This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

  • A commencing salary of between $74,537 and $78, 911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • Between 2 – 3 days of work per week.
  • An additional optional allowance of up to $4,642 will also be negotiated in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave my also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
  • A Community Language allowance is also available provided applicable criteria are met.

Applicants should note the following:

  • An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
  • Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
  • The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
