Job Description

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate to join our Medical Negligence team in our Brisbane office.

You will be constantly challenged by using your technical knowledge and experience in medical negligence to strive for fair outcomes for our clients. Using your high levels of interpersonal communication skills, and 'can-do' attitude you will have the ability to easily manage conflicting business needs and deadlines with confidence in your ability to prioritise accordingly. With your strong client focus and passion for helping people you will foster and manage relationships with referrers and other external parties while also looking to grow our incredible practice.  Part of this role will also provide support and mentoring to our junior legal staff.

Our Medical Negligence practice team are the leaders in the field with recognition in Doyle's Guide and obtained the recent unanimous High Court judgment of Stewart v Metro North Hospital and Health Service [2025] HCA 34. They have successfully represented hundreds of patients and their families in complex and sensitive matters, securing favourable outcomes in the areas relating to catastrophic injuries, surgery, obstetrics, misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis, paediatrics and all areas of medical negligence. Our Medical Negligence department holds true to the values of Maurice Blackburn and exists to ensure you maintain the right to trust your doctor to look after you properly.

This is a full-time permanent position, working 35 hours p/week in a Hybrid working model, giving you a great mix between working in the office and working from home.

Qualifications

We are looking for those with a strong client focus, that approach each client with compassion and empathy along with your drive to get the very best outcomes for our clients.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

• 7+ years PAE within an injuries litigation environment
• Medical Negligence experience
• Strong client and relationship building skills
• Strong client service focus and a passion for helping people
• Excellent organisation skills and an ability to multi-task
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to provide leadership and guidance to the wider team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
