Senior Restoration Projects

Part-Time days/week)

Rare opportunity: Apply your carbon and biodiversity project expertise to high-impact work on a schedule that actually fits your life.
We're Reforest, an environmental tech startup connecting businesses to verified ecosystem restoration. We need someone who knows the difference between Verra and Plan Vivo, who understands IC-VCM's Core Carbon Principles, and who can tell when a project's social safeguards are real vs. checkbox; but who also wants to do meaningful work without sacrificing school pickups or sanity.
If you've spent years in carbon and/or biodiversity project development, understand the key principles of good MRV, and are looking for senior autonomy on a sustainable schedule, let's talk
About Reforest
We're a mission-driven tech start-up where technology meets purpose. Our platform helps businesses take authentic climate and nature action by integrating ecosystem restoration into their products in ways that bring their staff and customers along for the journey.
We're based in Flight Centre's global HQ building in Southbank; excellent facilities, great location, and a genuine hybrid-friendly culture.
Our current state:
- We have many active restoration projects across with local partners across the world; some with formal carbon registration, others not.
- Over 100 business clients integrating our restoration into their products, with a focus on travel and events.
- Funding over 7 million trees planted.
- Small team based in Brisbane and the Philippines.
Why This Role Exists
Reforest connects businesses with high-integrity restoration projects and brings that impact to life for them and their stakeholders. We need someone to own our project portfolio: sourcing and vetting partners, managing our MRV processes, evolving the portfolio toward greater standards alignment, and surfacing the stories and data our business clients can share with confidence.
You'll be our first dedicated projects hire, working directly with our founders to build the systems and portfolio that will scale our impact.
What You'll Own:
Project integrity & MRV framework
- Assess status of current portfolio against our MRV process.
- Review and optimise our MRV process.
- Ensure MRV compliance throughout project lifecycle and manage payment milestones.
- Create partner reporting templates and communication cadence.
Content & data collection
- Set up process for collecting compelling project content (photos, narratives, metrics) that clients can use.
- Ensure all storytelling maintains integrity.
Partner sourcing
- Lead search, screening, and due diligence of new restoration partners.
- Work alongside leadership to structure and negotiate new project contracts.
Portfolio evolution
- Provide high-level support to existing partners to help move toward relevant registry alignment.
- Track evolving carbon and biodiversity frameworks; guide our practices and criteria accordingly.
Ground-truthing
- Share the responsibility of conducting project site visit(s) to validate status and progress.
Tech & automation
- Inform platform development to standardize partner interactions and MRV workflows.
- Guide use of AI/automation where appropriate to scale quality and consistency.
Team building
- Shape what a world-class projects function looks like as our portfolio grows.
Why This Works Part-Time:
Project types:
We only work with active restoration projects (e.g. reforestation), and we do not directly manage the on-ground work; we are a technology and integrity layer between our clients and their impact. Only a few of our projects are formally registered with a carbon standard, and in those cases our role is to provide high-level guidance and support (not do the work for them). For non-registered projects, we have our own fit-for-purpose MRV process that we manage.
Systems focus:
Year 1 is about building repeatable frameworks and processes that will help to standardise our approach and push more of the work back to our project partners in a consistent way.
Strategic role:
Whilst there will be some hands' on tactical work at the start, you will ultimately be focused on setting direction, establishing process and managing partners, not drowning in spreadsheets.
Supportive founders:
You'll work directly with our Founders, Tim and Daniel, who understand the domain and have been managing this work themselves for years.
2.5-3 days/week flexibility:
You can choose your preferred structure; it could be 3×8 hours, 5×5 hours or something else.
If you need
a support team from day one, a well-defined structure or no ambiguity, we're not there yet.
If you want
to shape something from the ground up with room to breathe and genuine flexibility, this is it.
You're Our Person If:
Essential:
- You've worked in carbon and/or biodiversity project development, MRV, or registry standards; maybe at a project developer, registry, consulting firm or NGO.
- You have sharp due diligence instincts and can assess permanence risks, identify governance issues, and evaluate community benefit-sharing structures
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable managing international partners with varying levels of technical sophistication.
- You can translate technical MRV data into compelling, honest stories for non-technical audiences.
- You're comfortable being strategic and operational; you can design the framework and then implement it.
Ideal:
- Experience across both formally-registered AND community-based restoration projects
- Remote sensing/GIS literacy.
- Awareness of biodiversity frameworks and nature credit markets.
- Familiarity with IC-VCM CCPs and CORSIA requirements.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building systems from scratch; you don't need perfect processes handed to you.
Our Approach to Integrity:
We know the carbon and restoration space has credibility challenges. Here's how we think about it:
- We're not claiming carbon neutrality or 'sustainability' for our clients; we position ecosystem restoration as measurable contributions to carbon removal and nature repair.
- We take a very holistic view of impact, beyond a myopic 'carbon at lowest cost' focus.
- We're transparent about project stage and verification status with our clients.
- We're investing in moving projects toward CCP alignment, not claiming it prematurely.
- We believe in additionality, permanence, and genuine community benefit (not just on paper).
Why we need you:
We're at an inflection point. Our early partnerships were relationship-driven with strong community-based projects. Now we need someone who can help us evolve our portfolio and support our partners towards formal registry alignment while maintaining those community relationships. We need to strike the right balance between formalised standardisation and pragmatic real-world impact that is tangible and engaging.
What We Offer:
- Salary:
Competitive based on experience. - Flexibility That's Real:
days/week; we're open to structure that works for you (3×8 hours, 5×5 hours, or other arrangements. - Balance of WFH and in-office at our amazing location in the Flight Centre HQ in Southbank; excellent facilities, easy commute options.
- The opportunity of a reasonable amount of travel to amazing project locations, with flexibility in travel volume and schedule.
- A supportive team that
- Your decisions directly affect the impact we're having on the ground every day.
- As our portfolio grows, shape what a world-class projects function looks like.
- Potential to move to full-time in the future.
