As NSW's
principal revenue agency, Revenue NSW (RNSW) fairly administers State taxation
and revenue for, and on behalf of, the people of NSW. RNSW manages fines and
administers grants and subsidies to provide valuable assistance to families and
enterprises across the state. The agency also recovers debt to provide an
equitable outcome for the community.
The successful candidate will report to the Manager Review Branch,
Technical Advisory Services and be responsible for: determining complex objections
made against decisions of the Chief Commissioner relating to state taxes,
duties and grants; and providing assistance to other team members.
Key duties:
- Research, analyse and determine complex objections relating
to states taxes, duties and grants. - Analyse, interpret and apply state tax
legislation, rulings and associated case law. - Write detailed reports,
submissions and letters on complex objections. - Work with the Review Branch
managers to initiate and implement change and achieve consistency in decision
making. - Coaching other members of the Review Branch team.
- Use RNSW systems to
generate reassessments. - Provide feedback to Operational branches on objection
outcomes.
Challenges:
- Maintaining technical competence. Meeting strict deadlines and
customer expectations in a high volume area. - Explaining decisions to customers and other RNSW staff.
- Writing letters
and reports on complex state tax matters that can be easily understood. - Balancing
own case load and providing assistance to other team members.
What you are looking for in a person: able to meet strict deadlines in a
high volume area; high verbal and written communication skills; superior
analytical skills; negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
in a constantly changing environment; coaching experience; able to work
independently and as part of a team; comprehensive knowledge of a State tax or
grant legislation: commitment to customer service.

Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting
at $129,464 base plus superannuation
