The Role

We believe in the talent and strength of our team. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an HR & Payroll Specialist to join our People & Culture team in a full-time capacity with hybrid working options

This pivotal position will oversee payroll operations while also supporting HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, and professional development. You will be instrumental in transitioning payroll systems from an outsourced provider to an in-house system, alongside supporting key HR initiatives that shape the employee experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Payroll Management

  • Oversee outsourced payroll until the transition is complete (expected go-live: July 2025).

  • Manage four payrolls (fortnightly and monthly), encompassing 250 employees across three businesses and multiple states.

  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and managers, ensuring clear and timely resolutions.

  • Manage novated leasing for employees, including setup, calculations, and liaising with leasing companies.

  • Oversee time and attendance requirements for the fortnightly blue-collar workforce.

2. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure payroll operations align with company policies, auditing procedures, and legislation.

  • Manage ATO and superannuation payments with full compliance.

  • Handle end-of-month payroll reporting and ad-hoc reporting as required.

3. HR Support & Employee Relations

  • Assist in coordinating the recruitment process, including posting job ads, conducting initial screenings, and organising interviews, and preparing employment contracts.

  • Provide administrative support for onboarding, ensuring all documentation and processes are completed smoothly.

  • Maintain employee records and update the HR reports to ensure accurate data management.

  • Support managers in employee relations matters by assisting with documentation and coordinating meetings as needed.

  • Help facilitate training coordination and career development programs, working closely with external providers and internal teams.

  • Assist in visa coordination and compliance processes by supporting documentation and liaising with relevant stakeholders.

  • Contribute to strategic HR projects, policy development, and process improvement initiatives through administrative and research support.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with payroll and HR functions

  • Employment Hero system experience would be advantageous but not essential

  • Previous experience in a multi-site/project/heavy industry organisation highly desirable;

  • Experience in recruitment, employee relations, training, and compliance.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support employees and managers effectively.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
