As a Student Advisor, provide essential support to students, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges. You will offer guidance on a range of topics, including financial assistance, accommodation, and disability support. By providing tailored advice and support, empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Key responsibilities will include:
Direct Student Support and Program Delivery
- Provide direct support to international students and students with disabilities through one-on-one appointments, presentations, and specialized programs, including orientation and departure sessions, focusing on access, inclusion, and transition to living and studying in Australia.
Advisory and Strategy Implementation
- Deliver strategies to support students with permanent or temporary disabilities, including illness and injury, throughout their studies. Provide expert advice to University staff on requirements for students with disabilities and formulate strategies to address these needs within the University environment.
Information Management and Crisis Assistance
- Prepare and update essential information materials, including print and web-based resources. Provide crucial assistance during student crisis situations and manage administrative duties such as case management, record keeping, correspondence, and report writing.
Stakeholder Engagement and Service Enhancement
- Proactively engage with academic and administrative staff to raise awareness of student issues, contribute to the effective operation of student support teams, and participate in the regular evaluation of programs to ensure continuous service improvement. Develop and maintain partnerships across the University and with external agencies to support student needs.
- Possess a degree in a relevant area (e.g., Social Work, Sociology, Behavioural Science, or Psychology) and at least one year of subsequent work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, including planning, scheduling, and prioritization for managing multiple events. Exhibit a high level of communication and negotiation skills, along with the ability to exercise critical judgment and provide relevant advice to staff at all levels.
- Proven ability to understand human relations and behaviour, assist students with their concerns, and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including non-English speaking backgrounds or those with disabilities.
- Display strong skills for working effectively in an electronic environment and delivering online information. Show a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain external relationships, work cooperatively as a team member, and maintain a positive attitude with tact and discretion.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
