We are seeking a driven and passionate Legal Counsel to join our supportive Legal team.

We are currently seeking for a driven and passionate Legal Counsel to join our team. The person for this role will be strong in Commercial Business Support, IT Contract law, Privacy law, Telecommunications law, Compliance and Risk Management and IT and Commercial Contract review and negotiation experience to support the Company's General Counsel.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Commercial Business Support:

  • Drafting and reviewing of IT and Telecommunications service and supply contracts, distribution agreements, software implementation, IT licence, Professional Services and hardware agreements, teaming agreements, general Ts &Cs, leases, intellectual property issues, competition and consumer law issues and tender reviews.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documentation and providing advice and direction to management on the most appropriate course of action across the business.
  • Advising on and representing the organisation in response to any legal disputes, action, audit, inquiries or investigation where necessary.
  • Ensuring the organisation is informed of new or proposed legislation, court or regulatory body findings and policy, updating current terms and conditions and processes and procedures to accommodate regulatory changes and ensure the organisation is compliant.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Assisting in analysing the organisation's legal and corporate risk, and offering alternatives and recommendations as required assisting the organisation in managing and minimising risk.
  • Assisting with the establishment, coordination, and maintenance of all legislative, regulatory, contractual and other compliance processes, procedures and records as required.
  • Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments and assist in developing appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Develop and review policies and practices on a regular basis to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations relating to activities and operation of the business.
  • Advise, review and assist on training, auditing and monitoring activities and necessary regulatory reporting related to the business and help ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements.

Contract and Compliance Administration and other:

  • Assistance in maintenance of contract archive.
  • Maintenance of precedent documents, agreements, standard terms and conditions, standard form contracts and compliance documentations.
  • Assisting with monitor and maintain compliance obligations.
  • Assisting with any other legal, compliance and related administrative work, as the need arises.

THE CANDIDATE

You will be working in a small supportive team with different levels of experience to learn from.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of Commercial and IT Contract Law, Competition and Consumer Law, Privacy Law (Australian, GDPR & the US) and Telecommunications law. Knowledge of Employment Law and general compliance requirements are advantageous.
  • Exposure and understanding of compliance principles and processes and compliance experience in a commercial environment.
  • Experience in corporate and commercial transactions.
  • Experience with technology and digital transactions.
  • Effective negotiation and drafting skills.

Personality Traits:

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Be organised and proactive in nature.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 2 years' experience in IT/Telecommunications/contracts Lawyer, coupled with appropriate tertiary qualifications.
  • Privacy law (Australian and the GDPR),telecommunications law experience would be of advantage.
  • Compliance experience in a commercial environment
