About the role:

Aurizon is seeking a Principal Adviser – Employee Relations to manage the development, negotiation and implementation of Enterprise Agreements in partnership with business units and lead employee relations initiatives across a complex and diverse workforce.

This role focuses on leading negotiations, shaping ER strategy and managing workplace reform initiatives. Aurizon currently has 18 enterprise agreements spanning rail, maintenance, infrastructure and ports. With over 6,000 employees and a national footprint, Aurizon offers both the scale and complexity that ER professionals value.

In this role, you'll work with senior leaders and contribute to business growth, ensuring ER frameworks align with our business priorities and future aspirations.

This is a strategic ER role — case advisory is handled by our People Advisory team — leaving you to focus on enterprise bargaining, reform, governance, and influencing outcomes that shape the future of work at Aurizon.

Regular travel will be required, particularly during bargaining cycles.

What you'll be doing:

  • Represent Aurizon in industrial tribunals where required.
  • Establish and interpret relevant policies, procedures and guides.
  • Provide advice and guidance on complex policy and EA interpretation
  • Effectively manage risks associated with business activity, legislation, and compliance obligations.
  • Partner with leaders to deliver proactive and effective ER strategies.

About you

You're an experienced ER professional who thrives on variety, challenge, and impact. You'll bring:

  • At least 5 years' experience in Employee Relations, including Bargaining experience.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • HR partnering experience (valued but not essential).
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Clear, persuasive communication – both written and verbal.
  • Integrity, resilience, and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • The ability to travel when required
