The Role and Hospital
The Psychiatrist will provide high quality psychiatry services to consumers of the Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Service and provide clinical leadership for the Mental Health clinical team.

Candidates with an interest in and/or certification in Forensic Mental Health including Prison Mental Health will be preferred. Consideration will be given to General Adult Psychiatrists. The provision of services for Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service is provided as one service, multiple sites.

Central Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service is based in Rockhampton CBD consists of the Prison Mental Health Service and the Court Liaison Service in addition to a Forensic Liaison Officer. Capricornia Correctional Centre is an adult male prison servicing Central Queensland. Female prisoners and juveniles are incarcerated in either Brisbane or Townsville. The prison houses 900 inmates.

The Consultant team consists of 17.5 consultant positions and have subspecialty interests including Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Old Age Psychiatrist, Addiction Psychiatry, Prison and Forensic Mental Health.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.

The Medical Board of Australia has implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), with the new pathway available from December 2024. Now is the time to apply for a new role.
