The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.

Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment.

The opportunity

  • Ongoing, full-time position based at Parkville, Melbourne.
  • YJW2 role: $79,122 - $90,989 per year plus super.
  • Directly manage the daily movements calendar, identifying any problem areas, negotiating re-scheduling of appointments to ensure all needs are met in line with the young person's case plan and operational demands.
  • Liaise directly with the Unit Supervisor to identify potential programs that have been identified through the units Dynamic Risk Assessment and prioritise or reschedule as required.
  • Ensure fluidity of all movements across the precinct and maintain ongoing communication with staff to ensure all visits and appointments are met and aligned to young people's case plans.
  • Engage and build rapport with a wide range of stakeholders ensuring delivery of services to young people in accordance with the structured day and daily movements timetable.

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Advanced experience and knowledge of the youth justice environment, including an understanding of issues and complexities of the youth justice system.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and effective interventions in responding to the developmental needs of young people from conflictual families and with institutional backgrounds.
  • Ability to understand and use IT systems with experience in Microsoft package
  • Ability to perform risk assessments when managing and assigning in rooms

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.

A current drivers' licence is required in order to travel to other Youth Justice Custodial sites.
