This is a key hands-on role for our technology transformation. You will be responsible for helping to drive our evolution from a traditional operations model to a modern, secure, and agile DevSecOps culture.The ideal candidate will be a deep technical expert, passionate about embedding security into every stage of the development lifecycle. You will contribute to a product and service design focus, designing and implementing reusable patterns and best practices that empower our cloud team. Your expertise will be crucial in building, maintaining, and optimising robust, scalable, and secure hybrid infrastructure, primarily on AWS, while fostering collaborative relationships across our Platforms, Networking, and Application teams.Key ResponsibilitiesMentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance, paired-programming, code reviews, and support for professional developmentContribute to the roadmap for DevSecOps initiatives, aligning with broader business objectivesArchitect and implement secure, cost-effective solutions on AWS using services such as EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, VPC, and GuardDutyWrite, review, and maintain high-quality, reusable Terraform code for provisioning and managing cloud infrastructureImplement and refine our source control strategy in GitHub, including branching models, access controls, and repository securityIntegrate and manage security tools within the CI/CD pipeline to provide automated security testing and feedback to developersAct as a senior technical escalation point for complex cloud and security incidentsCollaborate with architects to design secure-by-default cloud patterns and reference architecturesLead security reviews, threat modelling exercises, and compliance audits from a technical implementation perspectiveMonitor service health, performance, and cost, implementing observability tooling and optimising where necessaryPresent findings from user feedback and analytics to stakeholders to gain buy-in for service enhancementsAbout YouMinimum 5+ years proven hands-on experience in a senior cloud, DevOps, or DevSecOps engineering roleDemonstrable experience as a key contributor to an organisation's transition from a traditional IT operations or SysAdmin model to a mature DevSecOps cultureExpert-level knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its core infrastructure, security, and management servicesHands-on experience building and managing infrastructure with Terraform in a production environmentProficiency in using and administering GitHub, including creating and managing CI/CD workflows with GitHub ActionsA deep understanding of DevSecOps principles, "start-left" security, CI/CD, and automation best practicesExceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationshipsA strategic product and service design mindset, with experience creating reusable patterns and delivering platform capabilitiesDesirableExperience working within a public sector body or a tertiary education institutionExperience with Microsoft Azure cloud services (e.g. Azure DevOps, Virtual Machines)Industry certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or HashiCorp Certified: Terraform AssociateExperience with containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g.Kubernetes, EKS and Docker)Experience using user feedback mechanisms (e.g. surveys) and support analytics to measure and improve servicesAbout UsMacquarie is a university engaged with the real and often complex problems and opportunities that define our lives.
