Rehabilitation Case Manager and Early Intervention Officer

As an APS6 in the Work Health and Safety section you will bring your expertise to Early Intervention or Rehabilitation Case Management to support promote a safe, inclusive and high-performing workplace.
You'll be part of a collaborative, values-driven team that works across the department to ensure employees receive proactive, person-centred and compliant support – whether they're navigating recovery, return to work, managing WHS risks, or contributing to a safer culture overall.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on variety, meaningful engagement, and is interested in contributing to initiatives that not only promote well-being but genuinely improve the employee experience.
The key duties of the position include:- Take a flexible approach to developing and managing innovative case management solutions to complex and sensitive matters, in accordance with legislation, APS employment framework and department policy
- Provide advice to employees and managers on a range of rehabilitation, return to work or recovery matters, in-line with the relevant legislations and departmental policies
- Provide expert advice and practical support to managers and employees to build leadership capability to manage employee health and safety
- Support a team environment and contribute to team outcomes including working across multiple teams on an ad hoc basis to support internal workload surges
- Contribute to and support department wide WHS and HR initiatives and programs
- Collaborate with external providers, medical professionals and internal stakeholders to enable positive health and work outcomes
- Develop training, education, resources and communications that promote workplace health and safety and wellbeing awareness
To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health and Aged Care, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
An applicant's suitability for employment with Health and Aged Care will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), and
- Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.

Employees perform their duties at one of the Department of Health and Aged Care offices, in the locations specified in this advertisement. Remote working is possible and is negotiated with your manager on commencement. Flexibility can be negotiated with your manager to balance your personal and professional needs with the needs of your role and business area.
This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
A merit pool will be created from this process which may be used to fill future vacancies within 18 months of gazettal.
