Mon-Fri (8am-4pm)

Youth Futures is a child safe organisation and champions trauma informed practice and child protection and safety.

We create brighter futures for young people. When you work with us, you join this creation.

Evolving to meet the community need since 1988, Youth Futures is one of WA's oldest and largest youth specialist organisations currently providing 30 programs and services across three core streams: Homelessness, Education and Training, Support and Wellbeing.

We believe that all young people matter, regardless of the circumstances they find themselves in. We empower young people to take control of their future by offering them the holistic support and opportunities they need to thrive.

The role

We are seeking a full-time Education Assistant to support and engage with local young people attending our Youth Futures Community school hub in Mirrabooka.

Our schools are designed to re-engage and support students who have had difficulty attending mainstream education. Our goal is to ensure that students achieve relevant education certificates and possess the personal and social skills required to progress, be that TAFE, employment, training or an apprenticeship.

The main educational focus will be around functional literacy and numeracy as required in the Certificate of General Education Adults (CGEA), Intro, Levels I, II and III, although there may be scope to contribute to other areas of the curriculum. Expert engagement skills and the ability to work with students with low literacy and numeracy levels will be paramount to your success in this role.

About you:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work with at-risk students who may present some challenging behaviours.
  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to the individual and developmental needs of students in a manner suited to their culture, gender and circumstances.
  • Assist Teachers/Trainers to provide adjustments and support to students with a diverse range of needs, ensuring access to the curriculum for all learners.
  • Assist students as required and encourage social integration both in and out of the classroom.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and a demonstrated capacity to show both initiative and discretion.
  • Experience working with the CGEA would be advantageous.
  • Will ensure their practice is consistent with cultural, gender, developmental and other individual needs.
  • Can work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team.

Essential Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certificate IV or III in School Based Education Support
  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Current 'C' class WA driver's licence
  • Valid National Police Clearance

About our values

If you have the attributes, skills, experience and values required to be successful, and you believe you would thrive in this position and Youth Futures is somewhere you would be proud to work, then join us in driving positive change - Be Part of the Solution.

In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous salary packaging benefits where you can package up to$15,900 for general living expenses and an additional $2,650 for entertainment benefits per annum.
