Centre for Stories is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and energetic individual who embodies our values, vision and mission.
The Manager of Stories is responsible to the CEO for the planning, funding, delivery, and management of oral and writing programs. These artistic programs impact our key stakeholders - artists, audiences, and the community to drive increased financial and in-kind support for the Centre for Stories.
The position requires a person with vision, application, and an understanding of how stories contribute to the economic and social benefits of a broad and diverse public. As an Employee of the Centre, you will live by our values and vision and use your passion to make a difference both internally and externally. This requires a thoughtful attitude and the flexibility to commit to work outside of business hours.
To be successful in this role you will need to establish a strong understanding of how we operate, our diverse range of programs and services, and be willing to motivate and push yourself professionally. You will work closely with our CEO/Creative Director and program staff to cultivate opportunities where funding can drive greater creative benefits.
This is a role suited to:
- An administrator with a technical understanding of the arts, journalism, and/or media (literary and performance).
- A mid-career professional with experience supervising staff and reporting to a CEO/Creative Director.
- Training in creative and leadership fields that knows how to be entrepreneurial.
- Ability to manage projects and budgets, including seeking funding.
- Prior working knowledge of applying for government grants and acquitting them.
- Commitment to hosting and hospitality for donors, artists and the community.
- Understanding of successful mentoring and events programming.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engaging with current artists and audiences to leverage opportunities.
- Optimising access to stories across the community, government and the private sector.
- Ensure timely advice and reporting on key initiatives and opportunities for the CEO and GM.
- Managing a Program Assistant.
- Project manage events, mentorships and publications.
- Proactively seek opportunities for diversifying artist/audience existing portfolio.
- Adopt a persuasive narrative that attracts diverse interests.
- Contribute to the coordination of communication initiatives that promote the Centre.
- Research ongoing opportunities for prospective fundraising and new story collections (oral and written).
- Represent Centre for Stories within the community, and with external stakeholders across public and private sectors.
Selection Criteria
- An ethical and values-driven approach to working collaboratively.
- Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for the arts, including training and previous experience (5-7 years)
- Strong administrative, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well as a team member with prior experience in high-paced environments
- Experience in a similar role with responsibilities for budget ownership and staff supervision
- Ability to negotiate, be influential, develop trust and maintain effective relationships.
- Self-motivated and willing to take initiative.
- Demonstrated outcome-focused approach in previous roles.
