About the Role

As a Commercial Legal Counsel (Manager), you will play a pivotal role in driving legal excellence and innovation within the commercial legal team. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating client contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations (including AI, data protection, and corporate governance), and managing legal risks across all deal phases. A key aspect of this role is supporting the growth of the public sector business, providing strategic legal advice, and leading legal support for public sector initiatives. You will collaborate with senior leaders, mentor junior team members, and work on high-impact projects involving emerging technologies.

The position is based in Sydney or Melbourne, with a hybrid working arrangement (2–3 days per week in the office).

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will be admitted to practise law in Australia, with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial law. You will have a proven track record in IT contract negotiation, risk management, and compliance, ideally within the technology or consulting sectors.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a passion for technical innovation are essential. You will be adept at balancing legal risks with commercial objectives, able to multitask in a dynamic environment, and demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity. Experience mentoring junior lawyers and fostering a collaborative, supportive culture is highly valued. Attributes such as diligence, curiosity, adaptability, and exceptional stakeholder engagement skills will set you apart.

Package for this role will be $200,000 base + superannuation and STI
