Primary objective
To assist in the implementation of departmental and school-based policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes
for children with varying degrees of impairment and to work collaboratively to facilitate the effective and successful inclusion of
students into the community.
Context statement
Tennant Creek Primary School is a remote school based in Tennant Creek, which is approximately 500kms north of Alice Springs. The
school has approximately 500 enrolments which is inclusive of FaFT (Families as First Teachers), Pre-school, Primary, Special Education
Learning Centre and Mungkarta Homelands schooling contexts. The Primary School cohort includes 75% of students who are
Indigenous, with 70% coming from EAL/D backgrounds.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively with the teaching team to assist in the planning, preparation, implementation and assessment of
individualised educational programs that specifically address the diverse learning needs of students within a special
school setting.
- Be available when necessary for after school hours meetings, professional learning, school activities and discussions
with other professionals.
- Under the teacher's direction collect and enter data in health and hygiene, personal management, recreation and leisure
and behaviour management.
- Administer first aid and provide medication in accordance with school policies.
- Effectively communicate with students with diverse diagnosis and work colleagues whilst maintaining a high level of
confidentiality.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful experience working with students with diverse diagnosis, to provide learning opportunities
and recognised interventions to address deficits in areas such as communication, self-regulation, social/interpersonal
skills and functional academic skills.
- An ability to work within a cross-cultural environment, interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and
successfully develop effective partnerships with students and colleagues.
- Demonstrated effective oral, written and computer communication skills, and the ability to work successfully
independently and as part of a team, exercising sound judgement.
- Current Working with Children Clearance Notice and First Aid Certificate.
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to show empathy, patience and work effectively in a dynamic and
challenging environment.
Desirable
1. Qualifications or ability to obtain qualifications related to supporting students with disability in educational settings,
Light Rigid NT Drivers Licence.
