Primary objective

Deliver professional administrative services, including providing financial and administrative support to the Business Manager, the Principal

and teaching staff in a busy and demanding school environment.

Context Statement

Tennant Creek Primary School is a remote school based in Tennant Creek, which is approximately 500kms north of Alice Springs. The

school has approximately 500 enrolments which is inclusive of FaFT (Families as First Teachers), Pre-school, Primary, Special Education

Learning Centre and Mungkarta Homelands schooling contexts. The Primary School cohort includes 75% of students who are Indigenous,

with 70% coming from EAL/D backgrounds.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Special Education Teacher, actively support the planning, preparation,

implementation and assessment of individualised educational programs, and adjustment plans, for students with additional needs in

a mainstream school.

  1. Maintain records, undertake general administrative duties, assist with personal care needs of students, administer first aid and attend

to sick students as necessary.

  1. Develop and effectively maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disability, families and work colleagues whilst

maintaining confidentiality.

  1. Assist teachers with planning, preparation and the delivery of activities for students including the modification of materials.

  2. Assist with the supervision of students at recess and lunch as required and provide one on one high level support in interventions

programs.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Successful experience with and caring for students who have significantly below average intellectual functioning, multiple needs,

challenging behaviours, and who have deficits in adaptive functioning in areas such as communication; self-care; social/interpersonal

skills and functional academic skills.

  1. Proven ability to communicate effectively using various communication strategies and appropriate interpersonal skills with children

who have a diverse range of disabilities,

  1. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and communicating effectively to support productive partnerships.

  2. Demonstrated experience in undertaking a range of administrative tasks including personalised learning plans, Microsoft office,

spreadsheets, and database packages, student tracking databases, or ability to learn on the job quickly.

Desirable

1. Certificate 3 or equivalent level with recognition of prior learning.
