About the role
Position: Qualified Train Driver Assistant
Location: Narrabri, NSW
Status: Full time or Casual
The Qualified Train Driver Assistant position is a pathway to becoming a Qualified Train Driver. It is to provide operational support to the Train Driver in a way that ensures safe and efficient train operation in accordance with Qube Rail Safety Management Procedures and Systems, the relevant track access provider, regulator and siding owner rules and procedures.
Duties include:
- Work with a commitment to safety and demonstrate Qube's values of Integrity, Reliability and InclusionWork in collaboration with a Qualified Driver to perform Rail Safety Work in Train Operations
- Participate in safety meetings training, briefing sessions and toolbox talks associated with safe and efficient train operations
- Work towards achieving the required units of competency as part of the Certificate IV in Train Driving (TLI42622)
- Comply with procedures, work instructions, operating protocols and rules in order to facilitate the delivery of safe and efficient train operations
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Available to work across a 24/7 shift work roster
- Technical or trade background - preferred but not essential
- Hold a Current Driver Licence and provide recent drivers licence history
- Work collaboratively and harmoniously as a part of a team
- Ability to work autonomously using a proactive approach to task resolution, as well as being able to work in effectively in a team environment
- Be flexible and adaptable, and be able to work in a safety critical environment
- Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately orally and in writing
- Must be fit for work, and met the requirements of a Rail Category one medical with a good level of fitness and general health

- TLIB 3118 Apply awareness of railway fundamentals
- TLIF 1025 Follow work health and safety procedures
- TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor
- TLIB 0014 Carry out train roll-by inspection
- TLIC 0016 Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs
- TLIC 4074 Shunt, couple and uncouple rail vehicles
- TLID 0020 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
- TLIF 0008 Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment
- TLIF 0004 Work effectively in a train driving environment
- TLIF 2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
- TLIF 3058 Apply safeworking rules and regulations to rail functions
- TLIF 3091 Apply awareness of dangerous goods and hazardous materials requirements
- TLIB 3019 Test train braking system
- TLIB 3026 Prepare for train operation
