Description:

The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for managing end-to-end financial accounting functions, supporting the Finance Manager and the CFO in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations.

The role involves month-end close, statutory reporting, revenue recognition, payroll oversight, accounts receivable/payable, cash flow management, and financial analysis, while contributing to process improvements and providing guidance to junior finance team members.

The Senior Financial Accountant ensures finance operations comply with Australian Accounting Standards, ASX requirements, and relevant legislation, providing financial insights to support business decision-making.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Prepare, review, and analyse financial statements including balance sheets, cash flow statements, divisional reports, and revenue/job analyses.

Monitor and review revenue streams, ensuring accuracy and timely recognition in line with accounting standards and forecasts.

Translate financial data into actionable insights for management to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Provide variance analysis and financial commentary for monthly management reporting.

Support managers with scenario analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities.

Month-End & Statutory Accounting

Manage month-end close activities, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.

Prepare and review accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and journal entries.

Assist with half-year and full-year statutory accounts preparation in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and ASX reporting requirements.

Support audit coordination and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audits.

Assist with income tax, FBT, and GST calculations and lodgements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Operational Finance

Oversee and review payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance with awards and enterprise agreements, and correct application of superannuation and leave entitlements.

Manage cash flow, including monitoring balances, forecasting requirements, and ensuring sufficient liquidity for business operations.

Oversee the accuracy and integrity of day-to-day financial operations, ensuring processes run efficiently and in accordance with company policies.

Support the Accountant in ensuring smooth coordination across AP, AR, and general finance activities.

Liaise with banking partners and internal stakeholders to ensure effective cash and treasury management.

Compliance & Governance

Ensure finance operations comply with accounting standards, company policies, and corporate governance requirements.

Maintain and enhance finance policies, procedures, and systems to ensure consistency, accuracy, and control.

Support maintenance of ASIC corporate registers and ensure compliance with Corporations Act obligations.

Leadership & Team Support

Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to the Accountant and broader finance team.

Review work prepared by the finance team (including payroll, AP, and AR outputs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Contribute to continuous process improvements and implementation of finance best practices.

Foster a collaborative and high-performing finance culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and service excellence.

Skills and Experiences:

  • Demonstrated experience in an ASX listed company.
  • Understanding of audit regulations for ASX listed companies
  • Understanding of statutory accounts preparation in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and ASX reporting requirements.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS (Qualifications & Experience)

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (or equivalent).
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to drive process improvements.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for business decisions
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Deep understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in revenue recognition, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and cash flow management.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, taxation (GST, FBT, income tax), and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Proven experience managing month-end and year-end reporting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience reviewing or overseeing payroll processing, ensuring compliance with employment and taxation legislation.
  • Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB Advanced, NetSuite, InTacct or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, reconciliations, and financial modelling.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
  • Exposure to treasury and cash flow management.
  • Experience leading or mentoring junior finance team members.
  • Knowledge of process improvement and automation tools within finance.
