What you'll be doing
We have an exciting opportunity with a newly funded Wellbeing (psychosocial) Worker position.
Child & Youth Hope is a program within CYMHS that supports children and young people experiencing suicidal behaviour, thoughts, or are at risk of serious self-harm. Child & Youth Hope team supports individuals and their personal support networks (family, friends and other carers) for up to three months, helping them to identify and build protective factors against suicide. This is achieved through the program's coordinated care approach, which offers psychosocial, youth and family peer, and clinical support, delivered on an assertive outreach basis. There is a particular focus on intervening early to prevent crises, prioritising certain at-risk groups (such as young people identifying as LGBTIQA+, from Cultural or Linguistic Diverse backgrounds, and those presenting with neurodiversity or with a co-existing disability). The support offered is extended to the children and young people's support networks, providing a holistic, systemic approach to both prevention and aftercare intervention. The Child & Youth Hope model of care was co-designed and is underpinned by the vision of providing timely, relatable, consistent and adaptable support; working collaboratively with the young person and their network; building and supporting their connectedness to the community; and, providing supported transitions and pathways out of the service to ongoing supports.
Wellbeing workers provide children, young people and their support networks with practical recovery-based assistance (alongside the support provided by clinicians, Youth and Family Peer Workers). The goals of this are consumer-led and aim to assist understanding and beginning to address the factors leading to the suicidal experience.
