THE ROLE
Applications are sought from experienced Principal - Health, Safety and Training to join the team at Ora Banda.

*The responsibilities of this role will include:*

  • Partner with site HST Managers, Line Managers, and operational teams to embed compliance and hazard management into daily operations through coaching, mentoring, and system support.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on safe systems of work, offering technical advice and tools to frontline leaders to strengthen risk management and compliance practices.
  • Serve as the conduit between operational execution and corporate governance, ensuring feedback loops are maintained and system improvements are informed by site-level insights.
  • Maintain a visible presence across sites to assess system effectiveness, support capability development, and reinforce a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support the identification, assessment, and control of Principal Mining Hazards (PMHs) and other critical risks through robust, site-appropriate management plans.
  • Guide and verify the implementation of risk controls by site teams, escalating systemic gaps or non-compliance for resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Support site HST Managers in conducting risk reviews, inspections, and audits, ensuring findings are actioned, closed out, and communicated effectively.
  • Oversee the consistent application of the Event Alert process, ensuring key learnings from HSET alerts are understood and embedded across operational teams.
  • Contribute operational insights to the corporate risk register to ensure site-level risks are accurately reflected and addressed within broader governance frameworks.
  • Provide expert guidance and strategic oversight to support the effective implementation of the Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) across all sites, ensuring alignment with WHS (Mines) Regulations and company standards.

ABOUT YOU
To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:  

  • Minimum of ten (10) years WHS operational experience within the mining industry with both open pit and underground operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge with a minimum of Five (5) years' experience in a Corporate/Site based HST leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing site HST/HSET functions and implementing Mine Safety Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and managing Principal Mining Hazards, including the development and review of hazard management plans.
  • Diploma in Work Health and Safety (BSB51319) or equivalent.
  • ICAM Lead Investigator Qualification.
  • Lead Auditor qualification (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of mining legislation, WHS (Mines) Regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Proven ability to manage compliance reporting, audits, and risk control verification at a site level.
  • Valid C-class manual driver's licence.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in WHS.
  • Experience supporting contractor compliance in a mining environment.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).
