Richmond VIC, Australia Epworth Healthcare Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

In this permanent full time Data Platform Specialist role, you will be responsible for building and operating the organisation's modern data platform, enabling secure, reliable, and cost-effective data delivery across the enterprise.

This role engineers scalable data pipelines and products across the full data lifecycle—including ingestion, streaming, transformation, storage, governance, and orchestration—using a variety of modern data tools and services. The specialist works closely with analytics, integration, and application teams to ingest, transform, and publish high-quality, governed datasets for clinical, operational, and research use.

You will make an impact by:

  • Optimising, developing, validating and maintaining ETL and data integration solutions to connect applications, data stores, and analytic systems
  • Building and maintain logical and physical data models
  • Collaborating with technology and business partners to identify, define, develop, test, and implement a diverse set of data feeds
  • Monitoring usage of the Data Platform to identify and prevent potential performance and capacity issues
  • Assisting with the tuning of ETL processes and overall database and data platform performance

To be successful in this role…

You will have proven communication and problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of data technology and how it can be applied to help our diverse user base manage their businesses and provide world class healthcare. You will possess a strong practical knowledge of various traditional and modern data warehouse architectures and have extensive experience developing data warehouses, data marts, data vaults, and data hub systems in a diverse set of organisations.

You will have:

  • 5–8+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, including 2–3+ years working with cloud-based data ecosystems.
  • Proven experience building production-grade data pipelines involving messaging, CDC/streaming, transformation engines, and analytical data stores.
  • ELT development using modern transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt), including implementation of tests, CI/CD integration, and environment promotion.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling techniques (e.g., 3NF, Data Vault 2.0, star schemas), with hands-on experience implementing SCD/CDC merge logic and handling late-arriving data.
  • Experience operating and orchestrating data workflows, including designing alerting mechanisms, retry strategies, and runbook-driven support processes.
