Where the team fits in

The Head of Product, Data Platform and Data Management sits within our Launchpad squad, part of REA’s Global Technology group, headed up by our CTO Steve Maidment. Launchpad’s mission is to empower REA with great technology, including a market-leading data platform and data management capability. Our data mission is to help REA understand, protect and leverage its data.

We do this by:
- We build and license the REA data platform that supports all REAs data processing, management and sharing - including data flows, storage, ML/AI ops, discoverability, insights and governance- Improving the quality, access and usage of our data for staff, consumers and customers- Building reusable data products that unlock the value of our data- Invest in the reliability, quality and security of systems and data

What the role is all about- Lead and support a team of product managers working cross-functionally with data, software, and cloud engineers in an agile delivery environment- Being the champion of REA’s Data Platform and continue to build it out for scale and re-use leveraging market leading open source, AWS and GCP tools- Leading REAs data platform predominantly built on Google Cloud Platform using BigQuery, Cloud Storage, DataFlow, Data Prep and AutoML. Other features of the platform include AirFlow, Tableau, Atlan data catalogue and Apache Kafka- Continue the evolution of REAs data mesh vision; to create a centralised data platform with distributed data owners- Leading the data management team to create and roll out REAs core data frameworks, standards and practices- Engage and liaise with a variety of enterprise functions such as Legal, Risk and Security to ensure our data is protected and we comply with internal policies and beyond- Grow REAs data maturity through a mix of learning, education and literacy focused activities

Who we’re looking for- Someone with a few runs on the board - experience in Product Management and software engineering- Strong People leadership and coaching experience- Someone who is very comfortable working with data and technical teams, understands agile delivery and can help to translate technical opportunities to business stakeholders- Demonstrated understanding how platforms deliver scalability to a digital business and synthesise new opportunities into future platform development- Someone to lead the adoption of new cloud capabilities across GCP and AWS- Experience identifying and resolving complex issues, and assuming leadership roles in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances - solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgment- Someone passionate about data, ML, analytics. Concrete experience will be highly regarded- A super communicator who can understand complex domains and simplify them for stakeholders from top to bottom in the organisation
