Legal Aid NSW delivers accessible legal services across criminal, family and civil law. We provide advice, court representation, and family dispute resolution through 28 offices and phone-based support, helping people navigate the legal system with confidence and fairness.
About the role
Lead and provide expert legal guidance across multiple practice areas, ensuring the effective allocation of resources and the delivery of high-quality services that meet client and community needs. Offer strategic input and operational support as an integral member of each practice area team, driving excellence and alignment with organisational goals.
About you
You are a highly experienced lawyer, committed to delivering high-quality, culturally appropriate legal services to legally aided clients. You will have experience managing teams of legal and non-legal staff. You are a compassionate, principled leader who leads by example, promoting cultural safety practices in the office for both staff and clients.
You are a resilient and collaborative leader who thrives on building cohesion across multiple high-performing teams. You possess the confidence to manage differing viewpoints constructively, ensuring a culture of respect without compromising on service delivery.

The essential requirements for this role
You must:
be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
be able to provide a current (unrestricted) NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
be willing to do a Criminal Record Check
hold a Working with Children Check
hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)

Lead and manage a multi-practice office in Fairfield to ensure team wellbeing, foster collaborative and cohesive practice across teams, and achieve the efficient and effective use of resources to deliver high-quality services that meet the needs of clients in the Fairfield community.
- Develop key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the private profession, legal assistance providers, and the courts, and represent Legal Aid NSW within the Fairfield community and surrounding areas.
We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.
