You'll have a flair for management accounting and will play a key role in supporting the Director of Finance, assisting in preparing and presenting insightful management reports, including monthly variance reports, internal budgets, and annual financial statements. You'll also manage the reconciliation of various grant programs and oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.

You'll play a key part in the finance team that keep the agency running smoothly, offering the chance to directly contribute to impactful finance projects within Defence SA.
About You
You have a strong foundation in accounting, with the ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data. You are experienced in management accounts and reporting, and your excellent communication skills enable you to confidently highlight financial insights to both financial and non financial staff. You are adept at preparing various budget and management reports, and you enjoy proactively assisting stakeholders in navigating financial tasks.
Your collaborative approach allows you to confidently engage with others across the agency to understand challenges, provide clear financial analysis, and contribute to informed decision making.

Role Purpose/Context:
The Finance Officer is responsible for preparing and contributing to, a range of timely, relevant, and influential management accounts and reports for the Chief Executive and Leadership Team, including monthly reconciliations of financial accounts.
The role provides audience appropriate advice on matters related to SA government accounting policies, Australian Accounting Standards and Defence SA processes and liaises with Shared Services and other government departments on financial matters affecting the Agency.
The Finance Officer is also responsible for the planning and delivery of all regular accounting tasks, including the planning, delivery and review of taxation related information for BAS and FBT returns.
The role manages, administers and maintains the locally based financial accounting system, ensuring results are consistent with the Shared Services Financial Accounting, financial reporting system, and regularly reviews and updates all financial procedures and staff training resources within Defence SA.
Key Selection Criteria:
We're looking for a confident finance professional who has kickstarted their career in accounting or finance, whether in the private or public sector - and is ready to bring their transferable skills to the public sector. You'll have a solid understanding of management accounting principles and how to apply them to management reporting.
Your strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, which will be essential to your success in this role. You'll also possess exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, making you adept at translating complex management reports for a wide range of audiences. You thrive on learning about the people and departments you support, using your expertise to solve financial and business system challenges.
With an analytical mindset and a natural ability to think conceptually, you're someone who embraces flexibility and innovation. You're motivated, taking the initiative to drive improvements. Your positive, "can-do" attitude, coupled with your strong work ethic, will allow you to adapt to change and continuously contribute to the team's success.
