Primary objective
Provide both business and technical support for managing departmental performance, student achievement, and education outcome data,
including data for NTCET, STS, FaFT and other major collections. Oversee processes to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of
national education data submissions, as well as internal Departmental reporting. Support the development of robust processes and data
quality assurance standards across key collections.
Context statement
Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to preschools and schools to maximise
outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic
assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing government
priorities, offering expert advice to the Education Minister and the department's senior executives. We enhance our work by actively
engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all of our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high-level analysis and interpretation of student-related data to inform reporting on outcomes, engagement, and
progression, particularly in relation to senior years outcomes, student pathways and priority programs.
2. Lead the preparation of national data submissions, including the NTCET achievement data, FaFT participation metrics, and student
tracking information, which contribute to reports such as the Annual National Report on Schooling in Australia, Report on
Government Services, and Education at a Glance.
- Coordinate and participate in ICT and data integration projects in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, with a
focus on skills data.
- Enhance the Department's data visualisation and business intelligence capabilities by developing robust data models, managing
reference and master data, and supporting the design of reporting products.
- Support the Manager in delivering high-quality advice on student outcomes and performance reporting, while contributing to team
leadership through role-modelling, mentoring, mentoring, and promoting a collaborative and constructive workplace culture.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to present data
and information to various audiences.
2. Experience in using business intelligence packages, tools and databases (e.g. SQL, PowerBI, SAS etc.) with the ability to provide
technical solutions for data management.
3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work effectively within a team to manage a variety of diverse tasks in a complex
environment and meet deadlines within tight time constraints.
4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders and interact
effectively with people from diverse cultures to support organisational outcomes.
5. Demonstrated experience managing data collections, including the ability to validate and manipulate data to generate reports.
