ABOUT THE ROLE

The State Programs Manager – Victoria is responsible for the direction and development of all participation program products that play a key role in driving the growth and diversity of Participation in Victoria. The role oversees a high performing, diverse team that drives operational excellence and a diverse approach to deliver meaningful outcomes. The role is responsible for leading relationships with key stakeholders such as AFL clubs and school sporting organisations aligned to participation programs in Victoria.

Day in the life – what you will be responsible for      

  • Lead a high performing, diverse team across two functions:
    • Operations and Programming
    • Diversity Inclusion.
  • Lead the programs portfolio within the AFL Victoria team, providing advocacy and actively contributing to broader department decision making and capacity building.
  • Provide the operational direction of AFL participation programs in Victoria, including Auskick, Superkick, AFL Nines, School Engagement & School Competitions.
  • Lead the implementation of strategic plans across cultural diversity, indigenous, disability and women & girls that support the diversifying of our participation offerings and those that engage with Australian Rules Football
  • Ensure streamlined operational processes are implemented across the State with a key focus on consistency of framework in participation programs being delivered.
  • Lead program changes and delivery change management plans to ensure consistency across all regions
  • Lead the advocacy for Victoria to the National Game Development team, to ensure product development is supporting the needs of the state body.
  • Lead the process with the 10 AFL Clubs in Victoria to align strategic initiatives and operational workplans to support consistency in driving fan engagement and participation outcomes.
  • Lead the relationship and cross departmental collaboration between AFL Victoria and the 10 AFL Clubs in Victoria and their community / fan, membership and football departments
  • Lead all key stakeholder partnerships across participation programs in Victoria, including managing all agreements.
  • Analyse participation data and insights to inform strategic decision-making. A key focus on ensuring risk is identified and addressed with an operational plan.
  • Manage participation program budgets, ensuring alignment to strategic outcomes to drive more people to play Australian Rules Football.
  • Lead all key systems that support participation programs in Victoria; Salesforce, Tableau, PlayHQ.
  • Support and contribute to the success of the broader team

Must haves – what's needed to help you be successful   

  • 5 years' experience in a similar role or field
  • Exceptional leadership and management of teams
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and planning ability
  • Exceptional interpersonal and people skills
  • Strong understanding of the unique challenges of participation and barriers to participation
  • Robust understanding of cost / benefit analysis for the development and / or rationalisation of programs
  • Ability to develop and achieve targets and budgets
  • Experience in leading and implementing change
  • Strong administration skills, including experience with Microsoft software
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and drive
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Experience working with volunteers

Desirable

  • Degree in related field, (e.g. Sports Management or Business) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of AFL Victoria game development programs and their impact on the sports industry
