Where you'll be working

Provide leadership and co-ordination of delivery of training for the Emergency Medicine Training Network program across all relevant sites in Network 2 (primarily Royal North Shore, Hornsby and Northern Beaches Hospitals, Gosford, Wyong, Sydney Adventist, Lismore, Grafton Base Hospital).

About the Role

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) training program across the sites including the coordination of primary and fellowship examination preparations.

Support the local Network Governance Committee through liaison with health service administrative staff, hospital director/supervisors of training, clinicians and trainees to ensure standards of teaching and supervision meet ACEM training requirements and that trainees contribute to the delivery of high quality care to patients at all sites in the network.

Provide advice and reports to the Emergency Medicine State Training Council (EMSTC), Local Health District Training Committees, Local Health District Directors of Medical Workforce and the Network Governance Committee on the performance and outcomes relating to the operation of the network.

Contribute to HETI's policy and discussions regarding the delivery of Emergency Medicine training in NSW Health services and represent the interests of the network.  Liaise with Directors of Emergency Medicine Training (DEMTs) to ensure quality of training and supervision at each site in the network.  Ensure the functions described in The Principles of Emergency Medicine Training Networks are carried out in the network. The Network Director of Emergency Medicine is expected to undertakes frequent site visits of all hospitals within the network.

Not eligible for any additional allowances including Special Staff Specialist Emergency Physician Allowance or Managerial Allowance

Purpose of the Position

The Network Director of Emergency Medicine Training reports to the Deputy Executive Director Medical Services (DEDMS, NSLHD) and works closely on local initiatives and policies related to JMO wellbeing and performance within the Emergency Medicine Training Network 2. The position will need to work/collaborate with District Manager Medical Workforce as required on the request of the Deputy EDMS for district led activities related to the Emergency Medicine Training Network. The position has one direct report (Education Support Officer for the Network).

This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.

  5. Knowledge of education and training techniques, processes and assessment practices; especially in the context of emergency medicine training. Preferably applicants will have teaching co-ordination or senior educational role experience.
  6. Demonstrated success in building effective teams and relationships with colleagues, staff and stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrated ability to be innovative, inspiring and to focus on achieving results.
  8. Awareness of the future direction of medical education and training in NSW.
