About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine to join our team at one of the state's busiest Emergency Departments. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and research, with experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff of the hospital. You will also demonstrate a high standard of professional behaviour and be able to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a tertiary referral hospital and major trauma centre, with an extensive inpatient subspecialty roster, in-department imaging services, and educations and CPD activities available. The annual caseload exceeds 80,000 with high acuity, an admission rate of 36%, 21% paediatrics and a culturally diverse population base.

Key Responsibilities
  • Expert Medical Assessment and Management: Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service
  • Participating in Overnight Roster: Participate in an overnight on-call roster and weekend and evening shifts
  • Clinical Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and guidelines
  • Collaborative Care Delivery: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care
Requirements
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position
