About Us

Rival Building Group is a residential builder based in Croydon North, specialising in extensions and renovations across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. We run a true Design + Build model, guiding clients from concept and budget through to construction. With a strong pipeline of projects, we are looking to bring design capability closer to home.

The Role

We are seeking a reliable Draftsperson / Building Designer to collaborate with us on a per-project basis, with the opportunity to move into an ongoing or in-house role as our design side grows.

You will work directly with the builder to produce drawings that are practical, accurate, and drawn to budget – ensuring our clients have clear, buildable plans from day one.

Typical Projects:

  • Single and double-storey extensions
  • Renovations (kitchen, bathroom, open-plan living)
  • Second-storey additions
  • Minor additions (garages, pergolas, decks)
  • 2D and 3D concept drawings through to council-ready documentation

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in residential drafting and design (extensions/renovations preferred)
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD, Revit or ArchiCAD
  • Knowledge of Melbourne building codes & council permit processes
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on time
  • A collaborative approach – willing to work with builder and client to achieve the right outcome
  • High attention to detail and commitment to practical, buildable design

What We Offer:

  • Per-project payment structure (paid per milestone – concept, CAD, council submission)
  • Fair rates, with projects typically in the $300k–$600k range
  • Ongoing pipeline of work with opportunity for more consistent engagement
  • Potential to grow into a part-time or in-house design role as Rival's design arm develops
