About Us
At Awabakal Ltd, we are dedicated to supporting the social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. We deliver holistic, culturally responsive services that empower families to heal, grow, and thrive.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Violence Worker to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Team.
In this vital role, you will provide practical and emotional support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families experiencing family violence — working with both victims and perpetrators to promote safety, healing, and connection.
You'll deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe, and ethical case management, supporting the wellbeing of clients, including children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to Aboriginal families impacted by family violence.
- Tailor case management and interventions to meet the needs of individuals and families.
- Facilitate referrals to specialist services such as housing, health, legal, and domestic violence programs.
- Build strong relationships with local services and interagency partners including Police, DCJ, NSW Health, Courts, and WDVCAS.
- Deliver community education, skills development, mentoring, and peer support programs.
- Conduct home visits and safety planning for children and families.
- Maintain accurate case notes, records, and reports in line with program requirements.
- Participate in reflective supervision, clinical and cultural supervision, and ongoing professional development.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential:
- Confirmation of Aboriginality (Aboriginal designated position under Section 14 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977)
- Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting Aboriginal children and families affected by family violence.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.
- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Driver's Licence.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
- Experience in community development or program delivery.
You'll Bring:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage complex and sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Knowledge of family violence dynamics, risk assessment, and safety planning.
- Cultural understanding and respect for Aboriginal community protocols.
- Commitment to self-care, supervision, and ongoing learning in DFV and trauma-informed frameworks.
Why Join Awabakal?
- Work within a passionate, culturally grounded team making a real difference in community wellbeing.
- Access to professional development and training opportunities.
- Supportive workplace culture prioritising staff wellbeing.
- Opportunity to create lasting positive change for Aboriginal families.
