We've got every future generation to consider, yet our approach to investing is incredibly pure: we think about it deeply, and daily. Ours is a culture where great people grow the future together, with the rare ability to work collaboratively, think freely, and make a real difference.
Are you Futureminded? Let's create what's next.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Director, Stewardship & Corporate Governance to join our Responsible Investment (RI) team. Reporting to the Executive Director, RI, you will lead the implementation of the Board's new Stewardship Model and develop a stewardship strategy aligned with updated RI priorities and safeguards. This role demands strategic foresight, deep expertise in stewardship, and the ability to influence outcomes across a diverse set of investment stakeholders.
In this role, you'll broaden Future Fund's stewardship activities beyond listed equities, lead domestic proxy voting and ensure our international investment manager's voting practices meet our governance standards. Working closely with the investment team, you'll monitor and guide external managers' stewardship approaches, contribute to thought leadership through research and industry engagement, and ensure transparent reporting to support the Future Fund's commitment to responsible investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of the Future Fund's Stewardship Model, including principles, guidelines, voting rules, and escalation processes.
- Expand stewardship activities beyond listed equities to include asset classes such as infrastructure and credit.
- Develop and operationalise a systems stewardship strategy aligned with the Board's responsible investment priorities.
- Oversee in-house domestic proxy voting and monitor international investment manager voting to ensure consistency with governance expectations.
- Provide expert insights into the governance and stewardship policies of external investment managers and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor governance and stewardship-related risks across the portfolio and support integration into investment decision-making.
- Lead internal research and industry collaboration initiatives to advance thought leadership in stewardship and corporate governance.
- Deliver comprehensive internal and external reporting on stewardship outcomes, aligned with industry best practices.
About You
You are a strategic and collaborative leader with deep expertise in stewardship, governance, and responsible investment. You bring:
- Postgraduate qualifications in finance, economics, corporate governance, sustainability, public policy, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing stewardship strategies across diversified portfolios.
- A strong understanding of ESG issues and the broader investment universe, including listed equities, infrastructure, private equity, and credit.
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and external partners.
- A track record of embedding responsible investment principles into investment processes and exercising ownership rights effectively.
- Strong risk management capabilities, particularly in identifying and mitigating governance and climate-related risks.
- A commitment to continuous learning, team development, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Please note that this opportunity is only open to Australian Citizens.
